Buyout Law & Legal Definition

Buyout, in the corporate context, refers to the purchase of a company or a controlling interest of a corporation's shares or product line or some business. A leveraged buyout is an acquisition financed with borrowed money or by issuing more stock. Buyout may also refer to advance payments on a periodic investment, such as an annuity.
