Count Law & Legal Definition
A count is a part of an indictment or an allegation in an indictment charging the suspect with a distinct offense. In a complaint or similar pleading it refers to the statement of a distinct claim. An indictment may contain allegations that the defendant has committed more than one crime. The separate allegations are referred to as the counts of the indictment.
