Economic Self-Sufficiency Program Law and Legal Definition
According to 24 CFR 5.603 (Title 24 - Housing And Urban Development, Subtitle A - Office Of The Secretary, Department Of Housing And Urban Development; Part 5 - General Hud Program Requirements; Waivers; Subpart F - Section 8 And Public Housing, And Other Hud Assisted Housing Serving Persons With Disabilities: Family Income And Family Payment; Occupancy Requirements For Section 8 Project-Based Assistance), Economic self-sufficiency program means “any program designed to encourage, assist, train, or facilitate the economic independence of HUD-assisted families or to provide work for such families. These programs include programs for job training, employment counseling, work placement, basic skills training, education, English proficiency, workfare, financial or household management, apprenticeship, and any program necessary to ready a participant for work (including a substance abuse or mental health treatment program), or other work activities.”
