False pretenses is the crime of obtaining money or property through knowingly making false statements. The false statements must have deceived another into delivering title to property. It is distinguished from larceny by obtaining title to property, whereas larceny involves obtaining possession of property. With false pretenses, there's usually a transfer of title, deed, or ownership.
