Foreign Divorce Law & Legal Definition
A foreign divorce is a divorce obtained outside the State or Country in which one of the spouses resides. The term foreign divorce is used usually in a context where a divorce decree is obtained from one state/country and an attempt is made to enforce that decree in another state/country. For example, a divorce decree from Michigan or United Kingdom would become a foreign divorce when it is tried to be enforced in California.
