Free Alongside Ship or FAS Law & Legal Definition

‘Free Alongside Ship’ or FAS is a term that one usually meets with under international sales contracts. Under FAS, seller has to deliver the goods alongside the ship for transport, at the named port for shipment. Seller’s obligation ends when the goods are delivered alongside the ship and buyer bears all the costs and risks of loss of damage to the goods, including loading and all subsequent charges. The INCOTERMS 2000 requires seller to clear the goods for export. FAS is mostly used in maritime transport.
