Licensing Agent Law & Legal Definition

In the context of entertainment law, a licensing agent assists in ensuring the legal use of an artist’s work, such as seeing that the end user’s use is copyright complaint. A good agent already has contacts in the market and can effectively promote the artist’s work to them. Some of the duties of the agent may include creating a strategic plan, identifying the appropriate retail channels and the right products for the artist’s work, and creating a sales and marketing plan to promote the art to the right manufacturers of the right products in the right channels. The agent may negotiate licensing contracts with manufacturers/users on the artist’s behalf and administer the license. Services, fees, and commissions vary by contract terms.
