Police court is a court that exists in some states which is a type of municipal court which handles misdemeanors and traffic violations, as well as conducting arraignments and preliminary hearings to bind over for trial in a superior court anyone accused serious offenses. Police courts only only have jurisdiction over criminal cases, unlike those municipal courts which also have jurisdiction over some civil cases.
