Assessment in real estate is the setting of a value on property, usually for the purpose of calculating real property taxes. Values can also be adjusted due to a change in the physical nature of the property such as building permit additions or demolitions. The assessed value is multiplied by the tax rate to determine the annual tax bill. This function is usually performed by employees of the County Assessor.
