1040A Law and Legal Definition
1040A is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) form used to file individuals income tax returns. This form is shorter version of the standard 1040 form of the IRS. The 1040A form is used to file tax returns of taxpayers with a taxable income of certain extent. A person using a 1040A form can only have income from the following sources:
1. wages, salaries and tips;
2. interest and ordinary dividends;
3. capital gain deductions;
4. taxable scholarships and fellowship grants;
5. pensions and annuities;
6. unemployment compensation; and
7. taxable and social security and railroad retirement benefits.
