Abnegate means to give up; to surrender; to renounce.
The following is an example of a case law referring to abnegate:
A state can not abnegate or surrender its duty which is perpetually upon it to consult the physical and moral good of the people. [State v. Morris, 77 N.C. 512 (N.C. 1877)].
