Accidents of Navigation Law and Legal Definition
Accidents of navigation refer to the misadventures that are peculiar to travel by sea or to normal navigation. In other words it means accidents caused at sea by the action of the factors, rather than by a failure to exercise good handling, working, or navigating of a ship. Neither the exercise of nautical skill or prudence could have avoided such accidents. Normally, a ship is not liable for damages that are an accident of navigation, and not the result of negligence or misfeasance on the part of the ship.
