Active air defense is an offensive attack or counter attack. It is a direct defensive action taken to destroy, nullify, or reduce the effectiveness of air attacks. A hostile air and missile threat against friendly forces and assets is faced with active air defense. Methods used are aircraft, missiles, artillery, or electronic countermeasures.
