Actor sequitur forum rei is a legal maxim in Latin. It states that the plaintiff must follow the forum of the thing in dispute. It is a Roman maxim.
This maxim is a part of the public law, or law of nations. [Morris v. Eves, 11 Mart. (o.s.) 730 (La. 1822)]. In view of the maxim, ‘actor sequitur forum rei,’ the remedies upon contracts and their incidents are regulated and pursued according to the law of the place where the action is instituted. [Cox v. Adams, 2 Ga. 158 (Ga. 1847)].
