Acute Psychiatric Hospital Law and Legal Definition
Acute psychiatric hospital means a psychiatric health facility that is licensed to provide acute inpatient hospital service. It provides a combination of services such as psychiatric and alcohol-drug rehabilitation services. Acute psychiatric hospital provides universal screening for substance use disorder of all persons presenting. For all persons admitted they provide assessment of substance use disorders that is sufficient to plan and provide for initial management and referral. They also provide modified medical detox, brief focused interventions to increase motivation and appropriate referral to ongoing treatment in the community [Cal Wel & Inst Code § 14105.98(a) (14)].
