Admeasurement Law and Legal Definition
Admeasurement means the ascertainment, apportionment, or assignment by a fixed quantity or value, or by certain limits. For example, a vessel’s admeasurement is based on its engine, crew, and capacity.
The term ‘admeasurement’ can also be used to refer to a writ obtained in order to ascertain, assign, or apportion a fixed quantity or value or to establish limits. The term is commonly used with respect to a writ available against persons who usurp more than their rightful share of property. For example, admeasurement of dower is an early day writ to recover property from a widow who held more than she was entitled to.
