Aeromedical Evacuation Law and Legal Definition
Aeromedical evacuation means the movement by air transportation of patients under medical supervision to and between medical treatment facilities. It usually serves as the fastest and in many cases the only live saving mode of transportation. The specialized medical transportation units in the US Air Force are also called as aeromedical evacuation. Within the U.S. Air Force, aeromedical evacuation is coordinated by Air Mobility Command located at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. There are four active-duty AE squadrons (AES) in the USAF, but the 375th AES, Scott AFB, and the 43d AES, Pope AFB, North Carolina, are the only two located within the continental U.S.
