Affidavit in Lieu Law and Legal Definition
An affidavit in lieu is a sworn written statement that may be used in the place of something, like a lost auto title or registration to be used as proof of the facts contained therein. For example, an affidavit of title may be used to certify unavailability of a current certificate of title for a motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer due to loss, unlawful detainment or other legitimate circumstance.
