Affidavit of Birth Law and Legal Definition
This affidavit of birth is filed in support of an immigration application when a foreign national does not have a proper birth certificate. The birth certificate is an important document required for a number of immigration related matters including the green card and visa applications. There are many people that do not have a birth certificate because the country where they were born did not keep records at the time of their birth or they have one but it is incorrect. A notarized affidavit with the correct information could be made by a close relative privy to the birth of the person whose birth date is of concern. Preferably, if the parents are alive, they would be making the affidavit, but if not possible, a close relative older than the applicant may provide such affidavit. For example, an uncle or a close family friend.
