Affidavit of Support Law and Legal Definition
The Affidavit of Support is a legally required document for a foreign national upon the foreign national’s entry into the United States to show that the intending immigrant will have adequate means of support, when planning to immigrate to the U.S. A US citizen ("the sponsor") is required to make this promise as part of a family-based Immigration Visa application (and in some limited employment situations). This process is in order to prove that the intending immigrant has adequate means of financial support and that he/she shall not become a public charge.
