Agister's Lien Law and Legal Definition
Agister's lien is a lien upon an animal provided by contract or statute as a security for fees of a person who has fed or cared for the animal.
The following is an example of a state statute (Nebraska) on Agister’s lien:
R.R.S. Neb. § 54-201. When any person procures, contracts with, or hires any other person to feed and take care of any kind of livestock, the person so procured, contracted with, or hired will have a first, paramount, and prior lien upon such livestock for the feed and care furnished for the contract price agreed upon or, in case no price has been agreed upon, for the reasonable value of such feed and care.
