Allowance to a Prisoner Law and Legal Definition
When a poor debtor in a civil suit is arrested, the plaintiff is compelled to pay an allowance regulated by law, for his maintenance and support. The prisoner is discharged on default of such payment. However notice must be given to the plaintiff before the defendant can be discharged. This is referred to as Allowance to a Prisoner.
