Alternate Side Parking Law and Legal Definition
Alternate side parking (ASP) is a traffic regulation that prohibits from car parking on one side of the street between certain hours of the day. The law states on which side of a street cars can be parallel parked on a given day. The law intends to ensure efficient traffic flow while allowing snowplows and street cleaners do their job.
A traffic ticket may be issued if such regulations are violated. Some cities suspend (alternate side parking rules on the legal and religious holidays. Some jurisdictions maintain an alternate side parking suspension calendars that shows the days on which the ASP rules are suspended .
