Alternative Reproductive Technology[ART] Law and Legal Definition
Alternative Reproductive Technology is a general term used to denote a collection of methods for conceiving children through medical technology. ART includes in vitro fertilization, ovum donation, donor insemination, and other techniques. Conception by ART may sometimes lead to legal conflict regarding paternity. In such cases the issue to be settled is “who is the child's legal and biological parents”. Court’s assistance is usually sought to make intended parents the only legal parents. Steps must be taken to properly terminate the rights of non-intended parents. Intended parents must get their names entered on the birth certificate.
