Anthropometry Law and Legal Definition
Anthropometry is the system of measuring the human body in order to understand human physical variation. Before the advent of modern techniques such as fingerprinting and DNA profiling, anthropometry was used in intelligence testing. In order to identify deceased persons and criminals, minute measurements of the human body was taken and compared to other persons’ measurements.
Today, anthropometry is widely used in industrial design, clothing design, ergonomics and in all other areas where statistical data about the distribution of body dimensions in the population are used to optimize products.
