APHIS Law and Legal Definition
APHIS means the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. It is a multifaceted agency within the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Its mission is to protect the health and value of American agriculture and natural resources. The APHIS is the lead agency for collaboration with other agencies to protect U.S. agriculture from invasive pests and diseases. It administers the Animal Welfare Act, and carries out activities to manage and preserve the U.S wildlife, food, agriculture, natural resources and related issues. The APHIS works on a 24/7 schedule to protect the U.S. agricultural health.
