Area of Special Mudslide Hazard Law and Legal Definition
According to 44 CFR 59.1 Title 44 -- Emergency Management and Assistance; Chapter I -- Federal Emergency Management Agency, Department of Homeland Security; Subchapter B -- Insurance and Hazard Mitigation; Part 59 -- General Provisions; Subpart A – General], area of special mudslide (i.e., mudflow) hazard is the land within a community most likely to be subject to severe mudslides (i.e., mudflows). The area may be designated as Zone M on the FHBM. After the detailed evaluation of the special mudslide (i.e., mudflow) hazard area in preparation for publication of the FIRM, Zone M may be further refined.
