Assigned error refers to an alleged error that occurred in a lower court and which is pointed out in an appellate brief as grounds for reversal. The appellant relies on these errors in seeking an appellate court's reversal, vacation, or modification of an adverse judgment. For example, two if the appellant’s assigned errors appeared to the court to be harmless errors.
