Assignment (Health Care) Law and Legal Definition
Assignment, in the context of medicare means that a doctor or supplier who offers service under medicare agrees to accept an amount that the medicare approves as full payment for the service offered. They also agree to bill the medicare, as assigned to a medicare by the holder of a plan for the service and care offered by them. An assignment helps the holder of an original medicare plan to save money if a doctor accepts the assignment. For example, a doctor charges $130 for a service and the medicare offered amount for such service is $100. By assignment a doctor can agree to accept $100 as full payment for the service rendered.
