Automatic Energy-Saving Setback Thermostat Law and Legal Definition
Pursuant to 26 CFR 1.23-2, [Title 26 -- Internal Revenue; Chapter I -- Internal Revenue Service, Department of the Treasury], the term "automatic energy-saving setback thermostat" means a device that is designed to reduce energy consumption by regulating the demand on the heating or cooling system in which it is installed, and uses--
(A) A temperature control device for interior spaces incorporating more than one temperature control level, and
(B) A clock or other automatic mechanism for switching from one control level to another.”
