Autre action pendant means another action pending. Autre action pendant is a plea defending on the ground that another action is pending for the same cause. Normally, an individual cannot have two actions before a court at the same time, for the same cause and against the same person. So when a second action commences, the first action must be discontinued. Autre action pendant is used in pleas of abatement.
