Back-Up Power Law and Legal Definition
According to 18 CFR 284.262 [Title 18 Conservation of Power and Water Resources; Chapter I Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Department of Energy; Subchapter I Other Regulations Under The Natural Gas Policy Act of 1978 and Related Authorities; Part 284 Certain Sales and Transportation of Natural Gas Under The Natural Gas Policy Act of 1978 and Related Authorities; Subpart I Emergency Natural Gas Sale, Transportation, and Exchange Transactions], back-up power means electric energy or capacity supplied by an electric utility to replace energy ordinarily generated by a facility's own generation equipment during an unscheduled outage of the facility.
