Bailiwick Law and Legal Definition
Bailiwick is a bailiff's territorial jurisdiction. It could also mean the office, jurisdiction, or district of a bailiff. This is also termed as bailivia; baliva; balliva.
The name is coined from the words “wick” which meant village in early days and “bailie” which was a popular name for bailiff. Over the years, bailie's wick came to be expressed as "bailiwick."
