Bank for International Settlements Law and Legal Definition
Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is an intergovernmental institution established in 1930 in Basel, Switzerland. It was established to encourage the operation of central banks and to act as an international financial institution. It is not accountable to any national government. The BIS carries out its work through subcommittees, the secretariats it hosts, and through its annual General Meeting of all members.
