Barriers to Entry Law and Legal Definition
Barriers to entry are conditions that create difficulty for competitors to enter the market. Copyrights, trademarks, patents, dedicated distribution channels and high initial investment requirements are some of the examples for barriers to entry. Barriers to entry can also exist as a result of government interventions such as industry regulation, legislative limitations on new firms, special tax benefits to existing firms, etc.
