Baume gravity is a principle under which the lighter the oil the higher the gravity.
The following is an example of a case law referring to baume gravity:
Gravity as used in an oil and gas statute, and in oil price quotations, is not specific gravity, but what is called baume gravity, under which the lighter the oil the higher the gravity. [Ohio Oil Co. v. Conway, 281 U.S. 146, 152 (U.S. 1930)].
