Borough Law and Legal Definition
Generally Borough is an administrative division of various countries. It usually designates a self governing township. Often it will have a municipal charter and its own local government. Sometimes it may be a subdivision of a city. For example, New York City has five counties which are called boroughs. The subdivisions are New York County or Manhattan, Bronx County, Kings County or Brooklyn, Queens County, Richmond County or Staten Island. These five boroughs constitute New York City.
