A brand name drug is a drug that is patented and sold by one manufacturer. It is a drug known by the trademark name posted by its manufacturer. A manufacturer of a brand name drug can make that drug without any competition. An example of a brand name drug is “advil”. Advil is the trade mark name of that drug although its generic or chemical name is ibuprofen.
