Capital Gains Distributions Law and Legal Definition
Capital gains distributions are payments to mutual fund shareholders of gains realized during the year on securities that the fund has sold at a profit, minus any realized losses. Variable annuities do not distribute current capital gains because all distributions are deferred until retirement, at which time annuitants' capital gains are taxed at a lower rate.
