Central Security Service [CSS] Law and Legal Definition
The Central Security Service (CSS) is an office established within the U.S. Department of Defense, pursuant to the Presidential Directive of 1972. CSS promotes full partnership between the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Service Cryptologic Elements (SCE) of the U.S. Armed Forces. Further, CSS provides timely and accurate cryptologic support, knowledge, and assistance to the military cryptologic community. CSS also coordinates and develops policy and guidance on the Signals Intelligence and Information Assurance missions of National Security Agency (NSA) and CSS, to ensure military integration. The head of CSS is the director of NSA.
