Channelization Device [Federal Railroad Administration] Law and Legal Definition
According to 49 CFR 222.9 [Title 49 – Transportation; Subtitle B -- Other Regulations Relating to Transportation; Chapter II -- Federal Railroad Administration, Department of Transportation; Part 222 -- Use of Locomotive Horns at Public Highway-Rail Grade Crossings; Subpart A – General], channelization device means “a traffic separation system made up of a raised longitudinal channelizer, with vertical panels or tubular delineators, that is placed between opposing highway lanes designed to alert or guide traffic around an obstacle or to direct traffic in a particular direction. "Tubular markers" and "vertical panels", as described in the MUTCD [Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices], are acceptable channelization devices for purposes of this part. Additional design specifications are determined by the standard traffic design specifications used by the governmental entity constructing the channelization device.”
