Charge D'Affaires Law and Legal Definition
Charge D'Affaires is a French term which means charged with matters. It is a title given to a diplomatic official who head a diplomatic mission on a temporary basis. It also refers to an official who is placed in charge of an embassy in the absence of the ambassador. Often when an ambassador is withdrawn from a country, the charge d'affaires remains to act as a listening post and to keep diplomatic channels open.
