Charlatan refers to a person who pretends to have more knowledge or skill than s/he actually possess. A charlatan is a person who practices quackery or some similar confidence trick in order to obtain money, fame or other advantages through some kind of disguise or deception. Charlatan is also known as swindler or mountebank.
