Child in Need of Supervision Law and Legal Definition
Child in need of supervision means :
a child who, is habitually and without justification absent from school in his/her compulsory school attendance; or
a child who, deserts or abandons his/her family and custodians without reasonable cause and without the consent of his/her parents or lawful custodian; and
a child who, escapes or remains away from a court's residential placement.
A person who wants the court to treat a child as a child in need of supervision must file a petition with the Court Service Unit’s Intake Officer. On receiving such petition a court will intervene to protect the child's welfare.
