City councilman is the elected aldermen or councilors of a city council. A city council is the legislative body that governs a city. A city council generally consists of several city councilmen. Their number varies depending on the size of the city council. For example, the Los Angeles City Council which is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles is composed of fifteen members elected from single-member districts for four-year terms. A city councilman is also known as councilmember or councilman/woman.
