Co-Dependence Law and Legal Definition
Co-dependence is an emotional and mental illness based on meeting the needs and wants of others at the expense of one's own needs. It often involves putting one's needs at a lower priority than others while being excessively preoccupied with the needs of others. Symptoms of co-dependency may include requiring approval from others to feel good, having to control others to feel in control of oneself, and staying in relationships that destroy one's self-esteem. The disease may manifest itself in an addiction to drugs or alcohol.
