Co-payment (Health Care) Law and Legal Definition
Co-payment refers to an amount required to be paid under a medicare health and prescription drug plans as a share of the cost for a medical service or supply such as expenses incurred for a doctor’s visit or prescription. Co-payments are also used for some hospital outpatient services in original medicare. A co-payment is usually a set amount, rather than a percentage. For example, a doctor’s visit or prescription may cost $10 or $20.
