Cognovit Law and Legal Definition
Cognovit is an instrument in writing whereby a defendant in an action acknowledges a plaintiff's demand to be just. It is a defendant's written confession of judgment in an action brought against him, i.e., his admission that he has no defense, and consents to judgment being entered against him.
