Latin term cognovit actionem means “he has confessed the action”. It signifies the written confession made by a defendant admitting the merits of the action brought against him/her by a plaintiff. It is the confession of judgment after service of process; instead of entering a plea, acknowledging and confessing that the plaintiff's cause of action is just and right.
