Collateral Relations Law and Legal Definition
Collaterals are relatives of one another who descend from a common ancestor. The number of degrees or generations separating two collaterals via a common ancestor is the propinquity of consanguinity. The number of degrees is equal to the number of generations between the heir and the common ancestor, plus the number of generations between the common ancestor and the deceased.
